Evaluation and Management of Central Auditory Processing Disorder

Children as well as adults will receive a full assessment, strategies to accommodate and improve communication function, and targeted therapy recommendations. Recommendations for auditory training, speech language therapy, and occupational therapy are provided as appropriate. Recommendations are tailored to an individual’s auditory strengths and weaknesses in order to develop an appropriate and effective treatment program.

(C)APD evaluations typically take 2-3 hours to complete and can be scheduled across multiple sessions. A full report detailing skills, tests, and results will be provided as well as comprehensive recommendations specific to each patient’s plan of care that can be incorporated at home, work, school, and therapy. With your permission, Dr. Fabian will consult with your other providers to assist in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.

For a successful (C)APD evaluation, patients must be at least 5 years old and be able to follow simple (one step) directions in a very calm and quiet environment.  Preschoolers are tested to assess the development of basic auditory skills of speech understanding in quiet and noise, phonological awareness, and processing of nonspeech sounds (tonal discrimination and ordering) and are tested to ensure hearing sensitivity supports speech, language, and learning development.
